Make your time!

Ik had niet verwacht dat ik dik vijf jaar na de hype nog eens een stukje zou schrijven over ‘all your base are belong to us’, maar ik had het weer eens verkeerd.
Er is nog weer zoveel informatie en variatie bij gekomen dat het best relevant is om het er eens over te hebben.

Wat is All your base are belong to us?

Daar weet de wikipedia wel het nodige over te zeggen. Het betreft hier een slechte vertaling van de introductie van een Japans videospelletje. Een correcte vertaling wordt er ook gegeven:

AD 2101

War had begun.

Captain: What on earth are you saying happened!?

Engineer: It seems that someone had set explosives.

Communication operator: Captain! We’ve received a signal!

Captain: What!?

Communication operator: Main screen, visual incoming.

Captain: Y-you’re—!

CATS: You seem busy, gentlemen.

CATS: In co-operation with the Federation Government forces, CATS has taken over all of your bases.

CATS: It seems your ship will eventually meet its end as well.

Captain: It-It can’t be…!

CATS: I thank you for your cooperation.

CATS: Cherish these few remaining moments of your life.

CATS: Ha ha ha ha…

Communication operator: Captain….

Captain: All ZIG units, take off!!

Captain: There’s nothing but to put our trust in them…

Captain: Our future, in hope…

Captain: (We’re) Depending on you. ZIG!!

Als je dat wat goedkoper vertaalt krijg je het beroemde:

Narrator: In A.D. 2101, war was beginning.

Captain: What happen ?

Mechanic: Somebody set up us the bomb.

(spoken in the Flash animation as Someone set us up the bomb)

Operator: We get signal.

Captain: What !

Operator: Main screen turn on.

Captain: It’s you !!

CATS: How are you gentlemen !!

CATS: All your base are belong to us.

CATS: You are on the way to destruction.

Captain: What you say !!

CATS: You have no chance to survive make your time.

CATS: Ha Ha Ha Ha ….

Operator: Captain !! *

Captain: Take off every ‘Zig’ !!

Captain: You know what you doing.

Captain: Move ‘Zig’.

Captain: For great justice.

Hoe fijn toch weer. En met de zegeningen  van youtube is er ook een filmpje van hoe het écht in het spelletje zat.

Tot slot staat helemaal bovenaan een Calvin en Hobbes stripje dat gebruik maakt van de all your base tekst (klik plaatje voor groter). All your base blijft boeien.
